
Bruce Ward is an actor, playwright, director and teacher, residing in New York City. He has performed his solo play, Fabulous Ride Into the Unknown at the NYC International Fringe Festival, HERE performance art café, the Provincetown Theater, the Chattaqua Institute, San Francisco Civic Auditorium, Boston Center for the Arts, Oak Street Theatre (Portland, Maine), U.Mass/Amherst, the National AIDS Hotline Conference in Washington, D.C., and in residence at Dartmouth College with the NY Theatre Workshop. As an actor, Bruce's NYC, regional and international performances have included the centennial production of The Seagull at Russia's National Theatre of St. Petersburg, performances at Circle East, Mint Theater, Merrimack Repertory, Portland Stage, Charles Playhouse, San Diego Repertory, Arkansas Repertory, Worcester Foothills, Lyric Stage, Gloucester Stage, North Shore Music Theater, and the Boston company of the long-running comedy, Shear Madness. Television guest appearances include Law and Order, Ed, and Law and Order: Criminal Intent. Film roles include the independent films Wilbur Falls (w/ Danny Aiello), Private Lies (w/John Corbett), and All the Rage. (see Acting resume for full list)
Bruce's full-length play, Lazarus Syndrome, will have its World Premiere at the Alliance Theater in Washington DC in the fall of 2007. The play won the 2nd place prize for the Jean Kennedy Smith Award (as part of the Michael Kanin awards of the American College Theater Festival, presented at the Kennedy Center, May, 2007). Three of Bruce's short plays, Room 69, Roger G., and Bourbon and Cheesecake, have been produced by Boston Playwrights' Theatre, and Room 69 and Roger G. have been published by Baker's Plays. His one-act play, Paint By Numbers, has been produced by the 78th Street Theatre Lab in NYC, Boston Center for the Arts, and Celebration Theater in L.A., and was cited by American Theatre magazine in its "Trends" column. As a teacher and director, Bruce has taught acting and solo performance for several programs, including Boston University's Playwrights' Theatre, and Camp Amerikids. As an HIV/AIDS educator, Bruce was the original Director of the Centers for Disease Control's National AIDS Hotline, and worked as an educator for Planned Parenthood, Columbia University, and both the New York and Massachusetts' Departments of Public Health.
Bruce holds a B.A. in Theater from Northwestern University, an M.A. in Creative Writing/Playwriting from Boston University, and is currently studying for an M.F.A. in Creative Writing/Creative non-fiction) from the New School/NYC. He is a proud member of Actors Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and the Dramatists Guild.
